Mr. Mohammad Sadiq Kaboudvand, known as father of Human Rights in Iranian Kurdistan, founder of Kurdistan Human Rights
Organization, ), a Nobel Peace prize candidate in 2011, and recipient of
numerous international awards for human rights and journalism is under an
immediate life threatening situation in Islamic Republic of Iran’s prison at
the moment. He rrested in July 1st, 2007 due to human rights activities and was
kept in solitary confinement for more than 5 months Evin Prison before being
accused of "acting against national security through his organization,” and
"widespread propaganda against the system by disseminating news,” "opposing
Islamic penal laws by publicizing punishments such as stoning and executions,”
and "advocating on behalf of political prisoners.” He was convicted to 11 years
in prison by "the Tehran Islamic Revolutionary Court”.
As a result of such horrible and harsh conditions of
prison and the several months of solitary confinement, Mr. Mohammad Sadiq
Kaboudvand has suffered from heart diseases and a prostate disorder and
according to his family and lawyers andhe has had several heart attacks during this period. In April 2008 is
health condition worsened and as a result he suffered a stroke and was taken to
a specialist for treatment. Doctors diagnosed him with very sever heart
weakness and told he must be treated immediately in a specialized hospital and
heart surgery must be performed and at the same time his prostate needs
immediate attention and surgery as well.Mr. Kaboudvand’s son, Pejman
has also hospitalized due to a currently unknown blood disorder since 2011.
As
a legally law that recognized even by Islamic Republic standard, most
prisoners are entitle to receive
temporary leave from prison due to some physical conditions or family hardship,
therefore, his family both directly and through his lawyer, have demanded a
temporary prison leave for Mr. Kaboudvand from the Iranian authorities many
times, but all these requests have been refused. As
his son’s condition in the hospital worsened, Mr. Kaboudvand requested
temporary prison leave once more. On May 26th, 2012 after his requests were
once again refused, Mr. Kaboudvand declared hunger strike and he has told that
if his demands were not be met, he would continue his hunger strike until the
last moments of his life.
At the moment Mr.
Kaboudvand life is in an immediate life threatening situation, therefore we are
appealing for all your legal and diplomatic channels in order to save his life
before his condition get much more worse and become too late.
